The Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction was successfully commenced in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. More than 600 crores were spent by teams on buying their favourite players and strengthen their squad. Indian wicket keeper batter Rishabh Pant earned the tag of the most expensive player and was sold for a price of INR 27 crore to the Lucknow Super Giants. Pant was part of Delhi Capitals just ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and now will look forward to perform as per his reputation for the franchise. LSG also released KL Rahul, who was the captain of the franchise in IPL 2024. As he was picked up by the Delhi Capitals, LSG will need to find a new captain. Here is a possible captaincy picks for the Lucknow Super Giants:
- Rishabh Pant: The left-handed Indian wicket-keeper batter has loads of captaincy experience in the Indian Premier League. Pant has led the franchise to qualify for the playoffs under his captaincy and once when team was known for their dismal performances, the latter brought out the ‘A’ game from them which helped the team rise upwards in the tournament. The previous two editions of IPL haven’t been the way the Lucknow Super Giants would have liked and if Pant becomes the team captain, he can bring stability into the team.
- Nicholas Pooran: The West Indies batter has held the experience of leading his national side, however, the record isn’t as pleasant as he would have liked. Pooran is an aggressive batter and can come in the middle order to smash some big hits. He also provides the much needed acceleration to the team’s innings in the middle overs.
- Aiden Markram: The right-handed South African batter has led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past whereas has tasted immense success while leading South Africa as well. Markram has helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape to win two consecutive titles in the SA20.
- The Lucknow Super Giants qualified for the playoffs in their first two appearances of the Indian Premier League. LSG have had the back of many impactful players and they will look on performing well once again as they are known for.
