Singham Again Review: Ajay Devgn’s Action-Packed Film Is Entertaining But Predictable

‘Singham Again’ has made a thunderous debut in theaters. With star-studded cameos and an impactful 5-minute trailer, the movie broke records even before its release. Director Rohit Shetty has crafted ‘Singham Again’ as a full-blown masala action film.

From Deputy Commissioner Shakti Shetty, played by Deepika Padukone, to ACP Rameshwaram Satya’s entry, you can see that the filmmaker has meticulously planned each actor’s appearance. The 2 hours and 24 minutes film dedicates its 1 hour and 44 minutes to introduce the characters.

The story of ‘Singham Again’ is exactly what you saw in its 5-minute trailer. DCP Bajiro Singham is stationed in Kashmir, dealing with terrorists and insurgency as the head of the Special Operations Group (SOG). Singham captures Omar Hafiz after the attack, whose sons were taken down by Veer Suryavanshi and Simba in ‘Sooryavanshi’. Capturing Hafiz sets off a chain of shocking events that put Singham’s wife, Avni Kamath, in jeopardy.

Avni, who is working in the Cultural Ministry, stages a play based on Ramayana to share its story worldwide. Things take a turn when Danger Lanka kidnaps Avni from Rameshwaram, and Singham, joined by Simba, Suryavanshi, Satya, and Shakti Shetty, embarks on a mission to Sri Lanka to rescue her.

The story doesn’t delve deeply into any character; instead, it feels as though Bajirao Singham, the “Ram” of the Cop Universe, has Lakshman, Hanuman, Jatayu, and Shakti Shetty’s intros written with style and swagger. Rohit Shetty, along with Ksheteej Patwardhan, Yunus Sajawal, Sandeep Saket, Anushka Nandakumar, and Abhijit Khuman, has framed the storyline around the Ramayana theme, which stands as the film’s greatest strength.

Shantanu Srivastava’s dialogues are impactful, though they sometimes seem excessive, especially in the second half, where action and emotion should ideally take center stage. The climax introduces Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) to the Cop Universe, but it feels rushed. The one-room sequence could have been omitted.

Rohit Shetty and Mayank Tandon’s action design, alongside Sunil Rodrigues, brings swagger to ‘Singham Again’. Swanand Kirkire’s lyrics for the title track and ‘Jay Hanuman’ mix tradition with energy. The music by Ravi Basrur and Thaman is phenomenal. Ravi Basrur’s background score keeps the film’s tone consistent.

Talking about performances, Ajay Devgn stands out as Bajirao Singham as he showcases his emotional, intense, and action-ready side. Kareena Kapoor maintains her character’s grace, while Deepika Padukone’s Shakti Shetty lacks depth and background context. Ranveer Singh as Simba steals the show with his comic timing and delivery. Akshay Kumar’s cameo as Veer Suryavanshi is also impressive. Tiger Shroff as ACP Satya holds promise, making the potential for a spin-off even more exciting. Arjun Kapoor’s Danger Lanka gives a powerful first-half performance but loses momentum in the second.

‘Singham Again’ is a swaggering, action-packed film with a Ramayana-inspired theme and is ideal for fans. Even with its predictable story, it delivers exactly what you’d expect.
