J&K LG Manoj Sinha Greenlights Omar Abdullah Government’s Push For Statehood Restoration

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has approved a resolution from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s cabinet, calling on the central government to restore the Union Territory’s statehood in its “original form.” This move is seen as an important step toward reinstating the political identity of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Chief Minister to Meet Prime Minister

The cabinet has authorized Omar Abdullah to take the statehood issue directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other central leaders. Abdullah is expected to travel to New Delhi in the coming days to discuss the restoration of statehood with the Prime Minister and Union ministers.

First Assembly Session Scheduled for November 4

The cabinet also announced the date for the first session of the newly elected Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, set to be held on November 4 in Srinagar. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is expected to address the Assembly during its inaugural session.

Mubarik Gul Appointed Protem Speaker

Mubarik Gul has been appointed as the Protem Speaker to oversee the oath-taking of newly elected Assembly members on October 21. The Lieutenant Governor has approved this appointment, and Gul will serve as Protem Speaker until a permanent Speaker is elected.

Omar Abdullah Sworn in as First Chief Minister of Union Territory

Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after it became a Union Territory. He previously served as chief minister from 2009 to 2015 when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state.

National Conference-Congress Alliance Wins Majority in Assembly Elections

In the recent Assembly elections, the National Conference-Congress alliance secured a majority, winning 48 out of 90 seats. The National Conference won 42 seats, emerging as the largest party, while the Congress secured six seats.
