Ayan Mukerji FINALLY clears the air on Brahmastra budget: ‘It was an investment that we were making in trilogy…’

There has been a constant debate around the estimated budget of Ayan Mukerji’s magnum-opus Brahmastra. The film, which marks the beginning of India’s first cinematic universe Astraverse, has remained in news for the longest time as it has been referred to as the most expensive Hindi film ever.
While a lot of people have said a lot of stuff about its alleged reported budget, the members of team Brahmastra have not given a particular number. In a recent interview, when Ayan Mukerji was quizzed about how much is the exact budget of Brahmastra, he said that the investment done in it is actually for the entire trilogy.
“Brahmastra is a big budget movie. When we started to create Brahmastra, we were not creating just part 1. It was an investment that we were making in trilogy and in part 2 and part 3. So, a lot of our cost that we invested in part 1 is also invested in setting up the foundation, the writing, building assets, concept work on part 2 and part 3,” the filmmaker told Pinkvilla.
Ayan further added, “While we were working on part 1, we were also suddenly working on other ideas for offshoots of Brahmastra. So I think the way we are looking at it there is much larger investment. We have also not sat down and exactly ascertain what we are going to attribute to part 1 as the budget. We understand the investment and we are looking at it you know much larger way and not in such linear film one.”
Meanwhile, Brahmastra is having a stellar run at the box office and has crossed Rs 200 mark in the domestic market. The worldwide gross of the film stands in excess of Rs 360 crore.
