IPL 2022 final to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium; Kolkata and Ahmedabad will host playoff stage

With the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2022 in full swing, all 10 teams are battling for supremacy to secure their respective berths in the playoffs stage of the elite competition. At a time when the world’s richest T20 league is heading towards its business end,the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has reportedly confirmed the venues for the playoff stage of the IPL 2022 on Tuesday.
“Pleased to announce that Playoff Stage of IPL 2022 will be held in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. Mega final will be at Narendra Modi Stadium on May 29 along with Qualifier 2 on May 27. Qualifier 1 & Eliminator at Eden Gardens on 24-25 May respectively,” BCCI secretary Shah was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. BCCI secretary Shah also confirmed that Pune will host the fourth edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge this year. The summit clash of the Women’s T20 Challenge will take place on May 28th at Pune.
“The Women’s T20 Challenge resumes this year and Pune will host the fourth edition of the tournament. The dates of the matches will be 23rd May, 24th May, 26th May and the Final on 28th May,” the BCCI secretary added. For the first time in two years, the playoff stage of the IPL will have full capacity crowds in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. The IPL 2022 playoff venues had hosted the limited-overs series between India and the West Indies in February.
Earlier, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had confirmed that IPL 2022 final will be contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) led by MS Dhoni are placed 9th on the IPL 2022 points table while five-time winners Mumbai Indians are already out of the playoff race. New entrants Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are occupying the top two spots in the IPL 2022 standings. Third-placed Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are also among the top contenders to enter the next phase of the cash-rich league this season.
