Police have issued a lookout notice for prominent Malayalam film actor-producer Vijay Babu after he was charged of sexually assaulting a female actor and revealing the survivor’s identify during a Facebook live session.
The complaint was filed in Ernakulam of Kerala. According to media sources, Vijay Babu has been missing since then. On the night of April 26, Vijay went on Facebook Live and asserted he was innocent, claiming to be the “real victim”. The actor is believed to be out of the country, according to the police. According to certain reports, searches have already begun outside of Kerala.
Another action was filed against the producer, who is also the founder of the production house Friday Film House, for disclosing the survivor’s name and identity, which is illegal.
“A rape case was registered against him first. As he disclosed the survivor’s identity, another case was also filed. It seems that he is out of the station and absconding now,” a senior police officer PTI.
The woman, who has starred in films produced by Vijay Babu’s production studio, submitted a police complaint on April 22 and recounted the physical abuse and sexual exploitation she claimed she has endured at the hands of the producer-actor in the past one and a half month in a Facebook postmonths.
“He behaved like my saviour for my personal and professional problems but under the guise sexually exploited me,” the actress alleged.
She also said that his plan was to trap her in the role of a saviour, friend, and lover. In the subsequent one-and-a-half months, he intoxicated and sexually abused her multiple times.
He allegedly compelled her to drink alcohol and take a ‘happy pill’, a narcotic, in addition to rape and physical assault.
In a Facebook live on Tuesday, Vijay Babu rejected the allegations but revealed that he has known the female actress for the past five years. In addition to refuting the allegations, the producer stated that he will pursue a defamation suit against the accuser for “tarnishing” his image.
