Explosive Australian opener David Warner was one of the bargain purchases at the mega auction ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Warner returned to the Delhi franchise after a gap of 9 years as the Capitals signed him for INR 6.5 crore in the marquee set.
As Warner’s journey with the Sunrisers Hyderabad came to an end after miraculous 8 years with the 2016 champions, the former skipper of the franchise shared a heartfelt post for Kane Williamson, who replaced him as the captain midway during the season in 2021. Warner and Williamson shared a great rapport as the two played alongside each other for a few years, however, the former’s sudden sacking from the role meant he wasn’t retained by the Sunrisers ahead of the mega auction.
After the conclusion of the IPL 2022 auction, the 35-year old took to social media to share a heartfelt post for the New Zealand and current skipper Williamson. Warner said that he will miss having breakfast with him and playing cricket alongside him. “Going to miss my breakfast time with the Williamson’s and I will miss playing cricket with you brother!! #bromance #cricket #friends @kane_s_w.”
Over the years, Warner has forged a meaningful bond with the SRH fans and the people of Hyderabad and has repeatedly shared fond memories of him playing in Orange since he wasn’t retained by the side after IPL 2021.
Warner, who last played for the Delhi side in 2013, had formed a fabulous opening combination with former India opener Virender Sehwag. He had a great time with the Capital-side scoring 1435 runs across 5 years with the franchise since his IPL debut in 2009, including 9 fifties and two centuries.
Along with Warner, the Delhi Capitals also bought the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mandeep Singh, Rovaman Powell, Safraz Khan, KS Bharat, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya and Lungi Ngidi at the mega auction.
