‘All is well’: Uttarakhand BJP chief trashes reports of Harak Singh Rawat’s resignation

Uttarakhand BJP chief Madan Kaushik  rejected media reports of state minister Harak Singh Rawat’s resignation from cabinet, saying that the reports were just a rumour.

Several media reports on Friday claimed that Rawat, who is the Minister of Forest and Environment, Labour and Employment in the BJP-led Uttarakhand government, tendered his resignation.

The reports suggested that he resigned from the post during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after expressing resentment over delay in the construction of a proposed medical college in his constituency of Kotdwar.

However, the state BJP chief brushed off the reports of Rawat’s resignation from the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led cabinet and said, “All is well”.

The reports come ahead of the Uttarakhand Assembly polls scheduled to be held early next year.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, who was given the task of placating the disgruntled cabinet minister said that his grievance has been addressed and no one is going anywhere.

Kau said that Rawat’s proposal for a medical college in Kotdwar has been accepted and he has also been assured that the budget for the project will be released by Monday.

He further said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leader Anil Baluni and the Chief Minister helped resolve the issue.

“No one was going anywhere. We will all work as true soldiers of the BJP,” Kau said on being asked if Rawat had agreed to withdraw his resignation, PTI reported.

Both Harak Singh Rawat and Kau were among 10 MLAs who had rebelled against then Harish Rawat-led Congress government in Uttarakhand in 2016 and switched over to the BJP.
