No coercive action against Rahul Gandhi over ‘Modi surname’ remarks till Dec 7

The Jharkhand High Court has extended the interim relief of no coercive action against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi till December 7, in connection with a defamation case filed against him for his alleged statement “why all thieves share the Modi surname.”

In February last year, the high court had granted interim relief to the Congress leader in connection with the defamation case.

The court had stayed coercive action against Gandhi till the next order and also issued a notice to the petitioner, advocate Pradeep Modi, in the matter.

Gandhi had earlier filed a petition against summons issued against him by a lower court, which is trying the defamation case, ANI reported.

The Congress leader had allegedly made the remarks during poll campaigning for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
