India achieves new milestone as over 75 crore COVID-19 vaccinations administered

India achieved a new milestone on Monday by administering more than 75 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the country so far.

Taking to Twitter, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the country’s vaccination drive continues to create new dimensions under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with his mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Prayas (together with everybody, with everybody’s efforts”.

‘Congratulations India! In the 75th year of independence, the country has crossed the figure of 75 crore vaccinations,” the health minister tweeted with hashtags #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine and #AazadiKaAmritMahotsav.

So far, all adult people in six states and union territories — Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Ladakh and Lakshadweep — have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has congratulated India for accelerating the COVID19 vaccination drive.

“WHO congratulates India for scaling up COVID-19 vaccination at an unprecedented pace. While it took 85 days to administer the first 100 million doses, India reached 750 million doses from 650 million in just 13 days,” said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, WHO’s regional director.

The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. Vaccination of frontline workers started on February 2.

Lauding India’s vaccination drive, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said India has surpassed many countries in terms of vaccinating its population.

“This is a big achievement. I express my gratitude to the public, Corona warriors, state government and the Prime Minister who provided free vaccines to all. India has surpassed many countries in terms of vaccinating its population,” he tweeted.
