Team India head coach Ravi Shastri is among the members of the Indian contingent to have been isolated by the BCCI Medical Team amid the 4th Test match between India and England at The Oval on Sunday. According to the apex cricket board of India, coach Shastri’s lateral flow test has returned positive on Saturday.
As per the recent developments, Team India coach Shastri, Bharat Arun (Bowling Coach), R. Sridhar (Fielding Coach) and Nitin Patel (Physiotherapist) will remain in isolation. Even though head coach Shastri and three crucial members of the Virat Kohli-led side have been isolated by the BCCI, the recent developments will not have an impact on the ongoing 4th Test match.
In an official release from the BCCI, board secretary Jay Shah has said that all four members of Team India support staff have undergone RT-PCR testing and they will remain in the team hotel. Shastri and Co. will not travel with Kohli’s men until confirmation from the medical team. As per the release, the remaining members of the Team India contingent underwent two lateral flow tests – one last night and another today.
The BCCI stated that all four members upon returning negative COVID reports were allowed to proceed for Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test at The Oval. Thus, Team India led by skipper will be without coach Shastri at the Oval. The aforementioned developments have come before the start of the day’s play in London.
Talking about the match, Indian opener Rohit Sharma and premier batsman Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a match-changing 153-run stand for the second wicket which helped India bounce back in the 4th Test match against hosts England. Opener Rohit slammed his first overseas ton as the premier batsman played out an impressive 127-run knock off 256 balls. Indian skipper Kohli (29) and Ravindra Jadeja (12) will resume the day’s play today at The Oval. India lead England by 181 runs.
