Indian filmmaker Vishnuvardhan, whose latest film Shershaah is winning love and praise from critics and audience alike, is on cloud nine after superstar Kamal Haasan’s kind words for the film. Starring Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra in lead roles, Shershaah follows the life of Param Vir Chakra-awardee Captain Vikram Batra.
Just two days ago, Haasan took to social media and opened up about his take on the film. In his post, Haasan shared that as a film fan and a patriot’s son, he resented the way the Indian Army was depicted in some of the films right from his childhood. “Shershaah is that exception that makes my chest swell with pride for my soldiers,” read a part of his tweet. In his following tweet, Haasan thanked Karan Johar-led Dharma Productions for promoting director Vishnuvardhan and lauded Kiara and Sidharth for their excellent work.
Opening up about Haasan’s compliment, Vishnuvardhan told in an exclusive interview that he never expected this. “I received a beautiful compliment from Kamal Hassan sir. I had a conversation with him two days back, and he said the film was so beautiful. He said – when I saw this film, I was so overwhelmed I couldn’t even comprehend, it is so beautiful. It has touched me so deep,” shared Vishnuvardhan.
Adding that it’s so nice to hear from a legend like Haasan, Vishnuvardhan also revealed a hilarious thing Haasan told him. “He said what is the most interesting thing is that I never knew – when I saw your name Vishnuvardhan on the screen, I was confused if it is the Vishnuvardhan I know or if it is another Vishnuvardhan in Bollywood,” he shared, adding that it’s extremely kind of Haasan to have a conversation with him.
The filmmaker is almost in shock and disbelief looking at the flood of wonderful reviews pouring in. Overwhelmed by the positive reaction, Vishnuvardhan is particularly happy that the producers are happy with the film.
“Some of the best reactions are from home – the production house itself. I love it when my producers are really proud of the film, because we all believed in it and so much of effort has gone into it. That’s one of the best compliments I’ve got from Karan Johar that I am so proud to be making this film. That makes me feel really nice,” he shared.
While many are calling the film Sidharth’s best work as an actor, people are also touting Shershaah to be Vishnuvardhan’s best work till date. “I think we were all destined to be a part of Captain Vikram Batra’s story – that is how I would like to put it. It has definitely changed us a lot in our personal lives too because of what we have experienced in the story. I think it’s working for all of us in our favour,” he shared.
Next up, Vishnuvardhan wants to helm films that excite him as much as Shershaah did. The director is looking forward to more intriguing projects.
