More power to you young man: VVS Laxman shares old pic with Mohammed Siraj, lauds his hard work and will power

Mohammed Siraj was one of the key bowlers for Virat Kohli-led India as the visitors staged a memorable comeback to thrash Joe Root & Co. by 151 runs in the 2nd Test at Lord’s. Siraj, who also played a key role in India historic Test series triumph against Australia, bagged an eight-wicket haul in the match to send England on backfoot.

The cricket fraternity was full of praise for Siraj – who has been one of the most consistent pacers for India ever since he made his debut in the series against Australia. Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman took to social media to share a rare photograph where he met Siraj as a kid.

Lauding Siraj’s hard work and willpower, Laxman tweeted, “Met him for the first time at frmr Hyderabad great Abdul Azeem’s residence. And I feel so proud to see the rapid progress #Siraj has already made in intern’al cricket. His life is another testament of what one can achieve through hardwork & will-power.More power to you young man.”

On the final day of the 2nd Test, with not enough runs on the board, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami rose to the occasion and brought India back in the game with a magnificent 89-run stand for the ninth wicket.

In reply, England lost their openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley with just one run on the board. Siraj, who claimed four wickets in the first innings, continued his good form and removed Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and James Anderson. Bumrah (3/33), Ishant (2/13) and Shami (1/13) also played their roles as England were bowled out for 120 in the second innings

Not to forget, Siraj was named for India’s tour of Australia last year and had it not been injuries to most of the senior players, he might have not got a chance to make his international debut. However, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and soon became leader of the pack in the absence of senior bowlers. As India claimed the series 2-1, Siraj made a memorable debut and ended up as India’s top wicket-taker with 13 scalps in 3 matches.
