In a few days, it will be clear who has joined the other team: Pashupati Kumar Paras to Chirag Paswan

Hours after Chirag Paswan chaired the party’s working committee in Delhi, newly-elected LJP national president Pashupati Kumar Paras said in few days it would be clear who has joined the other team.

Talking to ANI, Paras said there were few people in today’s meeting who supported him and gave it in writing on June 17.

If needed, I will show it, he added.

Paswan, who has vowed to fight, saying he would protect LJP at any cost, also announced the launch of “aashirvaad yatra” from July 5, the birth anniversary of his father and party founder Ram Vilas Paswan, from Hajipur in Bihar.

Chirag Paswan’s announcement came after the LJP national executive endorsed his leadership and hit out at a faction headed by his paternal uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras for acting against the party’s constitution.

He asserted that over 90 per cent of the national executive members were in the meeting.

The decision to launch the yatra from Hajipur is significant because Ram Vilas Paswan was elected to Lok Sabha from here a number of times, and Paras represents the seat now in the House, reported PTI.

During the meeting, a resolution demanding Bharat Ratna for Ram Vilas Paswan was also passed.

On Saturday, the LJP faction headed by Pashupati Paras, disbanded all bodies and state units affiliated with the party and announced a new 8-member national executive.

Khagaria MP Mehboob Ali Kaiser and Vaishali MP Veena Devi and Sunita Sharma were appointed as national vice-presidents and Samastipur MP Prince Raj and Nawada MP Chandan Singh were made national general secretaries.

The battle over the ownership of LJP is likely to be decided by the Election Commission with Chirag writing to the poll body seeking rights on the party symbol.

Former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who formed LJP in 2000, passed away in October 2020 at a Delhi hospital where he was recuperating from heart surgery.
