The Health Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that there are more than 1 lakh active cases in 13 states and less than 50,000 active cases of COVID-19 in 17 states.
Following states have been showing a continuous decrease in daily new cases – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Daman and Diu, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the following states are showing a continued increasing trend in daily new cases – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, and West Bengal.
Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) DG Dr Balram Bhargava announced that Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) will be allowed at all government and private health facilities from now on and no accreditation will be required. Home-based testing solutions are being explored, he added.
Before confirming the national positivity rate at around 21 per cent, Dr Bhargava revealed that on April 30 this year, 19,45,299 tests were conducted, the highest ever in the world.
The total active COVID-19 cases in the country dipped to 37,15,221 today with a net decline of 30,016 cases being recorded in a span of 24 hours for the first time after 61 days, said the Health Ministry.
The total recoveries in a span of 24 hours too outnumbered the daily new COVID-19 cases after 61 days. The total active cases now comprise 16.16 per cent of the country’s total coronavirus infections.
