Government Orders E-Commerce Sites To Remove Pakistani Products After Pahalgam Attack

The Pahalgam terrorist attack cost 26 lives of tourists on the 22nd of April. After this, the people were shocked all over the country. As a retaliation against the Pakistani, the government started ”Operation Sindoor” to take revenge. The Indian Army killed several terrorists in the process of the operation.

It is interesting that the Consumer Protection Regulator CCPA (Central Consumer Protection Authority) has instructed e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart to delete Pakistani goods from their stores. This information was given in by Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday. Other companies in the list which have received notices include YouBuy India, Etsy, The Flag Company and The Flag Corporation and have been told by the CCPA not to sell Pakistani flags and related items.

What statement Was Made By Minister Pralhad Joshi?

Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi posted on social media. He warned that such insensitivity would not be tolerated. The e-commerce platforms have been required to remove all such content immediately and amongst other things to act in accordance with the national laws. This will mean that the government will not allow the sale of such products. The government should expect the e-commerce companies to take out such products at once and comply with the law of the country.

CCPA (Consumer Protection Regulator CCPA) has asked e-commerce firms such as Amazon and Flipkart to delete objects associated with Pakistan. Minister Pralhad Joshi said that such insensitivity would not be entertained and companies have been advised to abide by the national laws.

Warning For E-Commerce Companies

It is worth mentioning that the minister’s post has not clarified which particular violation of the law is being discussed. As for what legal provision is violated with selling the thing decorated with the Pakistani flag, it is unclear. The order made by the CCPA is a note to e-commerce platforms. They have to ensure that there is no product that is sold in their platforms which can ruin national sensibility or break the provisions of the law. Strict measures by the government will be taken in such cases.

Sensitivity And Consideration Towards National Feeling

The sensitivity and respect to the national sentiment is shown in this directive. Selling symbols such as the Pakistani flag can be seen as being offensive and anti-national by many in India, especially based on the geopolitical context and in light of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Even though they may and probably do not have a direct threat towards national security, these products can instigate hostile feelings.
