Multiple workers are feared trapped after an under-construction tunnel suffered a major structural failure in Telangana on Saturday. According to police reports, the construction firm dispatched an assessment team to gather additional details about the collapse. A section of the tunnel behind the Srisailam Dam collapsed after workers entered the site upon detecting leaks.
According to reports, three workers managed to escape, but officials fear that more than 30 others remain trapped. A rescue operation is currently underway to save the stranded personnel, as reported
Telangana CMO posted an update on X- “Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the accident at the SLBC tunnel. After receiving information that the roof collapsed at the tunnel and injured many people, the Chief Minister immediately alerted the officials. He ordered the District Collector, SP, Fire Department, Hydra and Irrigation Department officials to immediately reach the spot and provide relief measures. On the orders of the Chief Minister, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, Irrigation Advisor Adityanath Das and irrigation officials left for the accident site in a special helicopter.”
an official mentioned that, “A portion of the SLBC tunnel behind the Srisailam dam near Domalapenta experienced a collapse on Saturday. In particular, at the 14th km point, the roof of the left-side tunnel collapsed for three meters. This happened when employees were performing their duties at the site.”
