‘Yogi Adityanath should stop wearing saffron clothes to attract…’: Congress leader’s remarks draw BJP’s ire

Congress leader Hussain Dalwar has come under sharp criticism from the BJP after he said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should stop wearing his saffron attire.
Dalwar said that Adityanath should start wearing modern clothes if he wants to attract business in his state.
BJP’s Ram Kadam hit out at Dalwar over his remarks and asked why Congress leaders and their party have so much hatred for the saffron colour, which he said is the “sacred color of the Hindu religion”.
“Why do Congress leaders and their party have so much hatred for the saffron, the sacred color of the Hindu religion? Saffron is not only the color of our flag and the dress of our sages and saints but it is a symbol of sacrifice, service, knowledge, purity and spirituality,” the BJP leader said in a tweet sharing the video of Congress leader.
Kadam also said that the Congress leader’s statement was an insult to the country’s seers and saints who were saffron attire.
In 2019, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi had commented on saffron clothes of the UP Chief Minister.
“He wears the dress (vastra) of an yogi. He wears saffron clothes. This bhagwa (saffron) is not yours, it belongs to ‘dhaarmik’ (religious), ‘aadhyaatmik’ (spiritual) tradition of Hindustan.”
“It is a symbol of the Hindu religion. Us dharma ko dhaaran kariye (adopt that religion). In that religion, there is no place for anger, violence and revenge. This is all I have to say,” she had said, PTI reported.
Hitting back at her, CM’s office said that he wore saffron robe for “public service after sacrificing everything”.
“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has worn saffron for public service (Mukhyamantri Shri @myogiadityanath jee ne bhagwaa lok seva ke liye dhaaran kiyaa hai) after sacrificing everything else.”
“He not only wears saffron, but also represents it. The saffron-coloured dress is for public welfare and nation-building and Yogiji is a traveller (pathik) on that path,” the CM’s through its Twitter handle @myogioffice said.
“Whosoever creates hinderance to the continuous ‘yagya’ of the ‘sanyasi’ (seer) for public service and public welfare, will face punishment (Sanyasi ki lok seva aur jan kalyan ke nirantar jaari yagya mein jo bhi baadhaa utpann karega, usse dandit hona hi padhega),” another tweet read.
“Those who have got politics through inheritance and indulge in politics of appeasement by ignoring the country, how will they understand the meaning of public service (virasat mein raajneeti paane waale aur desh ko bhulaa kar tushtikaran ki raajneeti karne waale lokseva ka kya arth samajhenge),” it said.
