Would not like to see Samson get dropped: Gavaskar bats for star batter’s inclusion ahead of 3rd ODI vs WI

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson returned to scoring ways in the 2nd One Day International (ODI) series against West Indies. Samson, whose batting consistency has been a major talking point in the Indian cricket spectrum, showcased his exploits by notching up his maiden ODI half- century for the Shikhar Dhawan-led side at Queen’s Park Oval. While Samson turned up for India in the 2nd ODI, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan warmed the bench in the fixture.
With India heading into the final match of the series on Wednesday, former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has backed Kishan to feature in the Indian playing XI. However, Gavaskar also wants power-hitter Samson to retain his place for the third and final encounter of the ODI series between India and the West Indies. Under the leadership of Dhawan, India have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Thus, India are expected to rejig its playing XI for the upcoming dead rubber against the Nicholas Pooran-led side.
“I think he will get chances. One of the things I would not like to see is Sanju Samson get dropped and I tell you why, because everyone talks about Sanju Samson’s undoubted quality. “The only complaint that people have about Sanju Samson is that he isn’t consistent enough. Now he has got a fifty in the last game. If you drop him when he is scoring runs, he will be thinking what’s going on,” Gavaskar told Sports 18.
Premier opener Kishan is yet to feature in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Samson has been roped in as the designated wicketkeeper by the Indian think thank for the ODI series. Before playing a crucial knock of 54 off 51 balls in the series decider, Samson scored 18 off 12 balls in the 1st ODI against the Men from the Caribbean.
“So I would not like to see Sanju Samson dropped. I would like to see Ishan Kishan in the playing XI, which I think there will be changes, because we have seen that in the past when Rahul Dravid was the coach of India A, he would like to mix it around,” Gavaskar added.
