Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batter Narayan Jagadeesan has been in exemplary form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy and continued the same on Monday, November 21 against Arunachal Pradesh. Jagadeesan smashed his 5th consecutive List-A century, becoming the first cricketer in the world to do so. However, if you thought this was the end of it, it is just the start.
Jagadeesan made full use of the purple patch he is in as he destroyed the Arunachal bowling attack to pieces. After bringing up his century in just 76 balls, Jagadeesan went into an overdrive mode smashing the next 100 runs in just 38 balls. There is more!
Jagadeesan was unstoppable today! He added 77 more runs to his tally to not only surpass Rohit Sharma’s 264 but he also broke record of the highest-even individual score in List-A, held by England’s Alistair Brown. Jagadeesan finished with a historic knock of 277 runs off just 141 balls at a strike rate of 196.45, as he hit 25 fours and 15 sixes in his marathon knock.
Jagadeesan’s 277-run blast has come after his knocks of 114* vs Andhra, 107 vs Chhattisgarh, 168 vs Goa and 128 vs Haryana. Jagadeesan broke a string of records on the way. Jagadeesan went past Kumar Sangakkara, Alviro Petersen and Devdutt Padikkal to become the first cricketer on the planet to smash 5 consecutive List-A centuries.
Since this was Jagadeesan’s fifth century in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy season, he took over Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal, who all have four centuries to their name in one season of the Indian domestic one-day competition. Kohli had smashed four centuries during 2008-09 edition of the trophy.
