Won’t accept any attempt to change LAC unilaterally: EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar stated that India will not consent to any move by China to unilaterally shift the Line of Actual Control (LAC), emphasising that Beijing’s relations with New Delhi are “not normal” and that there will be no compromising on fundamental issues.

In a veiled attack on Pakistan, the external affairs minister stated Friday while speaking to the Indian community in Cyprus during his first official visit to the nation that terrorism cannot be used as a means of pressuring India to the bargaining table.
Jaishankar added that the problems on India’s borders got worse during the Covid era.
Today, the state of our ties with China is not normal because we will never agree to any attempt to change the LAC unilaterally,” EAM Jaishankar said.

No country, according to Jaishankar, has endured more terrorism-related hardship than India.

We want everyone to feel like good neighbours. Good neighbourly ties, however, should not entail justifying, ignoring, or condoning terrorism. We are absolutely clear about this, he remarked without specifying a nation, but seemed to be targeting Pakistan with this.

“We will never normalise it. We will never allow terrorism to force us to the negotiating table,” he went on to say.

According to Jaishankar, the Modi administration’s actions and policies on national security make India very apparent that “on core issues, there would be no compromise.”

EAM Jaishankar is in Cyprus for the first time on business as the two nations commemorate their 60 years of diplomatic ties.
