‘Will resume talk only if…’: Tripra Motha Party founder’s ‘constitutional’ response to BJP

Amid reports of clashes and violence between its workers with that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cadre, the Tipra Motha Party, which emerged as the second largest party in the recent Tripura elections made a shocking statement when they said they are ready to hold conversations with the saffron camp on finding a constitutional solution for the issues in the state.
This massive development came in response to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s offer to resume talks with the tribal-dominated party led by former royal scion Pradyot Manikya Debbarman.
“I’ve heard Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement about resuming talks with us. If they call us with dignity and respect, we will sit with them for talks, but not based on any post. We will talk with them only based on the Constitutional solution of Tripura,” party leader Debbarman told NDTV.
“We are the indigenous people of Tripura. If you think you can rule Tripura by ignoring our rights, then you will face problems. Tipra Motha was formed for the Constitutional rights of the indigenous people of Tripura,” he added.
He further said that the talk with yield fruits only if the BJP is determined to find a constitutional solution for Tripura.

Sarma’s offer for peace talk

Assam CM and BJP’s prime leader in the northeast, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the issues raised by the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) need to be discussed by the Centre and the new BJP government in Tripura and for that both the parties will need to sit together to reach a consensus.
As far as the numbers are concerned, Tipra Motha, which went on for its debut electoral fight this term won 13 out of 60 seats in the Tripura assembly. The BJP won the election with 33 seats while the Left-Congress alliance secured 14 seats.
