Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has said he is ready to make any sacrifice to stop Navjot Singh Sidhu from becoming CM of Punjab.
Will pit a strong person against him to ensure his defeat in 2022 Assembly polls, Singh was quoted as saying by Raveen Thukral, the Congress leader’s media advisor.
Calling Sidhu dangerous for the “state”, the Captain said that if he is the CM face then it would be a big thing if Punjab Congress touches double digits.
He further disclosed that he had offered his resignation to Sonia Gandhi 3 weeks earlier but she had asked him to continue.
“If she had called me and asked me to step down, I’d have,” he said, adding that “as a soldier, I know how to do my task and leave once called back.”
Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi are like my children, Amarinder said adding that this should not have ended like this.
he further claimed that the Gandhi children are quite inexperienced and it is clear that their advisors are misguiding them.
Hours after stepping down from the post of the Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder in an exclusive interview to ANI had said that he will oppose any move to make Sidhu chief ministerial face for reasons of national security.
Calling Sidhu “incompetent”, the Captain said that he is going to be a disaster.
“I will oppose his name for the next CM face. He has a connection with Pakistan. It will be a threat to national security.” Amarinder Singh told ANI.
Saying that the cricketer-turned-politician is friends with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Singh called it a matter of national security”.
“He is friends with Imran Khan and General Bajwa. Daily so many drones, weapons, explosives, grenades, pistols, rifles, AK47s, RDX, heroine is coming (in Punjab). Where is all this coming from, from Pakistan….when he knows the bigwigs from Pakistan and we share a 600 km border with Pakistan, it is a matter of national security,” Amarinder Singh had said.
This statement from the former Punjab CM comes after Harish Rawat, general secretary in-charge for Punjab, said that the party would go to the polls with Navjot Singh Sidhu as its face.
Under attack over Rawat’s statement, the Congress went into damage control mode and issued a clarification saying the next Punjab assembly elections will be fought under the leadership of both Charanjit Singh Channi and Sidhu.
