West Indies women will lock horns with England women in the 7th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup on Wednesday, March 09, 2022. The match starts at 3:30 AM IST at the University Oval, Dunedin, New Zealand.
England women are the defending World Champions and will certainly look to get their title defence back on track with a win against the West Indies women side whom they have dominated over the years in the ODI format.
England did not make a bright start to their title defence against arch-rivals Australia in their first match of the tournament. England Women were decimated by the Aussies in the recently concluded Women’s Ashes Series and it was just a replay of what had happened down-under.
England won the toss and asked the Aussies to bat first. The Aussie Women grabbed the opportunity with both hands and scored a massive 310 in their allotted 50 overs. A brilliant century by Rachael Haynes and a well-compiled half-century by captain Meg Lanning laid the foundation for a big score.
England in reply gave it their best shot but eventually fell 12 runs short of the target. A brilliant century by all-rounder Nat Sciver and a valiant half-century by Tammy Beaumont went down in vain. A win on Wednesday will certainly give much-needed confidence to the English women.
Meanwhile, the West Indies Women team has also done well in the only game played in the World Cup so far. The Women in Maroon won a thrilling encounter against hosts New Zealand to announce their arrival in the Women’s World Cup.
West Indies Women scored a respectable 259/9 while batting first in the game. Hayley Matthews scored a brilliant 119 to lead West Indies to a competitive total against the White-ferns. The White-ferns looked in control of the chase thanks to a century by captain Sophie Devine but a sudden collapse during the middle phase allowed West Indies women to make a comeback in the match.
A brilliant piece of fielding from Shermaine Campbelle capped off a famous win for the Women from the Caribbean. West Indies women will be on cloud nine and will be ready to face the stern test from defending champions England.
Nat Sciver, Tamsin Beaumont, Anisa Mohammed, Hayley Matthews are some important players that you can pick in your Dream11 team.
