What Mamata Banerjee said on Morbi bridge collapse, Opposition unity and CAA

 West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee  launched a a veiled attack on the BJP over the Morbi bridge collapse tragedy. Banerjee demanded a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into the bridge collapse incident in Gujarat. She also questioned why the central probe agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate have not been roped in to probe the Morbi incident.
The Trinamool Congress supremo demanded thorough probe into the Morbi bridge collapse incident and said that accountability should be fixed.
“Politics is not important…Election is not important…But human lives are important,” Banerjee stressed.
Banerjee has repeatedly slammed the BJP-led Centre for attempting to weaken the Bengal government by using agencies like ED and CBI.
Commenting on the possible implementation of The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, the Bengal CM said she was totally against the CAA. She accused the BJP of raking the issue because of the upcoming Gujarat elections.
It may be noted that the Union home ministry’s decision to grant citizenship certificates to members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, residing in the districts of Anand and Mehsana in Gujarat, has stirred a political controversy in West Bengal.
Following the MHA order, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly said that the process of CAA implementation has started in the country and West Bengal will not be left out of it.
Banerjee, who would be meeting Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin  in Chennai, said Stalin is her political friend.
It is a courtesy meeting as I’m going to Chennai. Whenever two political persons meet there are related things that get discussed, the West Bengal CM said.
The Trinamool supremo expressed hope that the Opposition will soon unite to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Opposition has to come together and regional parties have to play a significant role, Banerjee stressed.
