Chris Gayle seemingly bid adieu to international cricket after being dismissed by Pat Cumins during the ongoing T20 World Cup fixture against Australia. While nothing has been confirmed so far, Gayle dropped a big hint of quitting top-flight cricket as he raised his bat towards the fans and clearly hinted at retiring. He was also seen distributing his gloves to fans in the stands.

The left-handed batsman looked in touch and was batting at over a strike-rate of 150 before he edged a delivery back onto the stumps. The WI legend scored 15 off 9

While there is still suspense over Gyale’s retirement, Dwayne Bravo has confirmed that he will quit international cricket after today’s fixture. This is the 2nd time when Bravo has retired from international cricket.

A two-time T20 World Cup-winning player, Gayle has 1899 runs in 79 T20Is. He averaged 28.11 and struck at 137.31. Gayle’s tally includes 2 centuries and 14 half-centuries. He also scalped 19 wickets in the shortest format. A regular opener, Gayle often batted at number 3 in the lead up to the T20 World Cup 2021.

Often hailed as the Universe Boss, Gayle is regarded as one of the best batsmen of the shortest format. With 14306 runs in 452 matches, Gayle tops run-scoring charts. No other batsman has scored more than 12000 runs. While he isn’t expected to play for West Indies again, he looks set to play overseas leagues.

Gayle hasn’t played a Test match since 2014 while his previous ODI appearance came in 2019. An all-format legend, Gayle has 7214 runs in 103 Tests and 10480 runs in 301 ODIs. He is a former international captain too.

Talking of the ongoing fixture, West Indies are 4 down for 81 in 11 overs. The Kieron Pollard-led side has crashed out of the tournament from the league stage.
