Suresh Raina has turned a year older and is celebrating his 36th birthday today (November 27). The left-handed batsman has been receiving wishes from all corners on social media and Chennai Super Kings have shared a series of posts to wish their Chinna Thala on his birthday.
“A true Super King marked by his character inside out! Super Birthday to you, Chinna Thala!,” CSK wrote in their first tweet for Raina. “The trademark inside out shall always forever remain etched in our hearts! We you, Chinna Thala!” the franchise wrote in another tweet. The Yellow Army also sshared a video for Raina in the evening.
Raina had a long career for CSK and only played for Gujarat Lions after the Yellow Army was banned for 2 years. He started his CSK career in 2008 and remained part of the side till 2008. Raina was CSK’s designated vice-captain and used to lead the team in MS Dhoni‘s absence.
Raina became the fulcrum of CSK’s batting and finished his career as their highest run-scorer. At one stage, Raina was IPL’s highest run-scorer as well. Raina has 5528 runs in the T20 league. Out of them, he scored 4687 runs for CSK.
Raina’s relationship with CSK probably took a hit when he returned from UAE before the start of IPL 2020. There were a number of COVID-19 cases in the CSK ‘s camp after they reached UAE. Raina was retained by CSK for IPL 2021 but he missed a couple of matches at the later stage of the tournament.
In the IPL 2022 mega-auction, CSK didn’t bid for their former vice-captain and Raina went unsold. He took up commentary during the T20 league.
Raina, who retired from the international cticket along with MS Dhoni, has now also retired from IPL and can’t play for any franchise. He can join any of the teams in a coaching capacity.
