We are so proud of you: Virat Kohli hails India’s Commonwealth Games heroes for memorable campaign

India ended their 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in style by winning a total of 61 medals. With a tally of 22 golds, 16 silvers, and 23 bronze medals, India finished 4th on the table. Despite the absence of shooting from the roaster, India only fell short of their 2018 tally by five medals.
India’s biggest medal haul came in Wrestling as all 12 Indians who participated returned home with a medal. This included six gold medals. Even Weightlifting heavily contributed to India’s tally with a total of 10 medals to boost from the sport.
Following the end of India’s incredible campaign, Indian cricketing great Virat Kohli took to social media to hail the medal winners. Kohli stated that the participants brought great laurels to the country and that the nation is very proud of them.
“You have brought great laurels for our country. Congratulations to all our winners and the participants of CWG 2022. We are so proud of you. Jai Hind,” wrote Kohli on his official Twitter account.
The 2022 edition saw the return of cricket to the Games after 24 years and the first time women’s cricket was part of the CWG. The Indian women’s cricket team had a campaign to remember as they played the first-ever women’s cricket final in the history of the games. Despite a heartbreaking loss in the final to Australia by 9 runs, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led outfit managed to secure a historic silver medal.
Elsewhere both the Indian men’s and women’s hockey team won the silver and bronze medal respectively. Australia proved to be the nemesis in both events as they beat the men’s team in the final and the women’s team in the semi-final. The Savita Punia-led Indian side defeated New Zealand in a thrilling penalty shootout to clinch the bronze medal.
