WBBL 2024: Lizelle Lee Dazzles With Record-Breaking Knock Of 150 Runs

Lizelle Lee, a South Africa batter broke a new record in the Women’s Big Bash League on Sunday, scoring an unbeaten 150 for the Hobart Hurricanes, hitting astonishing 12 sixes along with that. Her knock is the highest individual score in WBBL history since its inception in 2015 and surpassed Brisbane Heat’s Grace Harris from last year’s record of 136.

Lizelle Lee’s Historic Knock Of 150

This blitz from the 32-year-old opener came off just 75 balls and also featured 12 fours, as she tore apart the Perth Scorchers’ bowling attack at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It marked a dramatic turnaround for Lee after a slow start to the season in which she had managed only 71 runs in her previous five WBBL innings.

She got lucky to survive a dropped catch on 63 when a chance was spilled at backward point, but she cashed in on the opportunity and added some more carnage to the Scorchers’ bowlers. Despite the onslaught, Scorchers’ pace bowler Ainsworth impressed with figures of 2 for 17, who stood out in an otherwise difficult spell.

Second-Highest Total For Hurricanes

Lee’s sixes started early, with consecutive hits off Ebony Hoskin in the fourth over, and she sealed the record with consecutive sixes off the same bowler in the last over. Hoskin’s figures of 0 for 53 from four overs were a sharp contrast to her heroics the previous match against Melbourne Renegades.

The Hurricanes totalled 203/2, their second-highest in WBBL history. The Scorchers were never really threatening at any stage of the chase, losing Sophie Devine off the very first ball and then seeing Chloe Piparo run out in the opening over.
