The Board of Control for Cricket in India have tried to shake things up a bit in the Indian cricketing scene after a disappointing year in 2022. On January 1, the BCCI had a review meeting that included not head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Chetan Sharma, where they discussed the roadmap for Indian cricket keeping the 2023 ODI World Cup in mind, and made a lot of changes and strategies.
However, now it has come to light, that the apex cricketing body has already found the replacement to Rahul Dravid for the position of Team India head coach, according to a report by News 18 Cricketnext. Dravid’s contract ends after the 2023 ODI World Cup in November, and should he not choose to extend his tenure, it will be VVS Laxman who will replace his former India teammate at the helm.
Laxman has already handled several coaching assignments with Team India in the absence of Rahul Dravid. The most high profile tournament when VVS Laxman took charge of the Indian team was during the Asia Cup 2022, when Rahul Dravid had was diagnosed with COVID-19. However, he returned back to India after Dravid recovered and was back to his position befoe the first game against Pakistan.
VVS Laxman first coached Team India during their two-match T20I series against Ireland, as Rahul Dravid was preparing with the first-choice team for the rescheduled one-off Test match vs England. He then was in charge of the coaching duties for the 1st T20I vs England. His first full fledged series as Team India head coach was in the three-ODI series against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe. After the Asia Cup, VVS Laxman returned to the helm of affairs in the T20I series against New Zealand right afte the T20 World Cup.
