Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal targetted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat and said that the voters of the state have two options- voting for the BJP and getting ‘spurious liquor’ or voting for AAP and getting employment. Kejriwal is on a one-day visit to the state and is slated to address a public rally and offer prayers at a temple in Rajkot in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region.
“At present, people of Gujarat have two options, either they’ll get spurious liquor if they’ll vote for them (BJP) or they’ll get employment, if they vote for us. Electricity, school, jobs will be the issues now. Spurious liqour is being sold openly in state,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal was referring to the illicit liquor tragedy in the BJP-ruled state which resulted in the death of 42 people over the past few days. AAP was among the first opposition parties to slam the BJP and asked why and how liquor was being served in a dry state.
“Gujarat is a dry state. Still in 15 years, 845+ people have died after drinking poisonous liquor. Such a big organized network has been running under which politicians? The government is incurring a loss of 15,000 crore due to liquor prohibition, but it is being sold openly. So in whose pocket is this money going?” AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj had said, while lashing out at the ruling party.
This is Kejriwal’s second visit to Rajkot in the recent past and fourth visit to Gujarat. The state is headed for Assembly elections later this year and the AAP is hoping to give the BJP a tough fight in latter’s stronghold.
