When Virat Kohli takes the field during the 2022 Asia Cup T20 match against Pakistan on Sunday (August 28), he will create a new record. The former Indian captain will become the first Indian cricketer and second overall, after New Zealand great Ross Taylor, to play 100 matches in all three formats of the game.
Up till now, only 13 players have featured in 100 or more T20I matches, but only Taylor has the unique distinction of playing 100+ games in all three formats, but Virat will join him in the special list on Sunday. The premier batter made his T20I debut for India against Zimbabwe on June 12, 2010 and has scored a total of 3308 runs at an average of 50.12 till date.
The 33-year-old is the third leading run-getter in the shortest format of the game and is one of the only four players who have scored more than 3000 runs in T20I matches.
Kohli played his 100th Test match earlier this year in March against Sri Lanka in Mohali, and in that game, he got a chance to bat only once, in which he scored 45 runs. Kohli has played a total of 102 Tests in which he has scored 8074 runs at an average of 49.53.
In ODIs, the two-time ICC Player of the Year has featured in 262 matches and scored 12344 runs at an average of 57.68.
Virat is one of the best batters the world has ever seen. His average is close to 50 in all three formats of the game, which is a very rare feat. In fact, only Virat (50.12) and Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan have an average of more than 50 in T20Is. Rizwan has played 56 matches up till now and out of those 56, he got a chance to bat 45 times and he scored 1662 runs at an average of 50.36.
Taylor, who is the only other batter to play 100 games in all three formats, has scored 7683 runs in 112 Tests, 8607 runs in 236 ODIs and 1909 runs in 102 T20I matches.
