In the first ODI against Sri Lanka at Guwahati, Team India have piled up a heap of runs, and their star batsman Virat Kohli has been in the thick of things, as he smashed his 45th hundred in ODIs. Thus, King Kohli started off his 2023 with a bang.
He came in to bat at no. 3 when Shubman Gill was dismissed after a terrific century opening partnership with captain Rohit Sharma. However, Virat Kohli not only continued the momentum built by the opening batsmen, but took it a notch further. He smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers all over the park as he breached the three-figure mark once again in the ODIs.
This is Virat Kohli’s 9th hundred in ODIs vs Sri Lanka. He thus breaks the record of the great Sachin Tendulkar for being the batsman with the most hundreds against Sri Lanka. He also equalled the Master Blaster’s record of the most centuries by an Indian batsman at home, as this was Kohli’s 20th hundred in India.
He also equalled his own record of scoring the most ODI hundreds against a single nation. Kohli also has 9 tons against West Indies in the 50-over format and also has 9 hundreds now against Sri Lanka.
This is also Virat Kohli’s 73rd ton in international cricket, as he furthers his record of being the batsman with the second-most tons in international cricket, and came one more step close to Sachin Tendulkar’s record of a 100 international hundreds. This was Virat Kohli’s second consecutive ODI century, after his knock against Bangladesh in the final ODI.
Virat Kohli scored 113 runs in the game against Sri Lanka, as he smashed 12 fours and a six in his 87-ball knock. India scored 373/7 in their 50 overs. While Kohli top scored with 113, Rohit Sharma scored 83 while his opening partner Shubman Gill smashed 70.
