Virat Kohli might have had a rare off day with the bat in the 2022 T20 World Cup against Zimbabwe at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in India’s final Super 12 game but he ensured that he was able to make a big impression in the game.
Kohli showed the world why he is regarded among the best fielders in the world by taking an incredible forward diving catch on the first ball of Zimbabwe’s innings to dismiss Wesley Madhevere from Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling. Kohli seemed surprised by his own catch and his visible disbelief went viral on social media.
Earlier in the day, after India won the toss and choose to bat first; a brilliant knock of 61 in 25 balls by Suryakumar Yadav helped the Men in Blue put a total of 186 on the board. KL Rahul scored his second successive half-century in the tournament by making 51 runs in 25 balls. Kohli looked in good touch but was dismissed after making 26 runs in 25 balls.
Rohit Sharma’s poor form with the bat continued as he could make just 15 runs in 13 balls. Rishabh Pant failed to take his chance after replacing Dinesh Karthik in the playing XI as he managed to make just three runs in five balls and gave his wicket away to Sean Williams courtesy of an incredible catch on the boundary line from Ryan Burl.
Talking about Kohli’s catch, the dismissal will give him a lot of relief after dropping a dolly in the India-South Africa clash last week of Aiden Markram which ultimately led to India’s defeat.
Kohli is the highest run-getter in the tournament with a total of 246 runs in just five matches. Suryakumar is third on the same list with 226 runs so far in the tournament.
