Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the team management have been informally warned following the outburst on the stump mic during the 3rd day’s play of the Cape Town Test match. The day was marred by a controversy when the Indian players vented out their frustration after DRS saved the day for Dean Elgar.
The SA captain was trapped in front of the stumps by R Ashwin. Though the on-field decision had to be changed as the replays showed that the ball going over the stumps. The ball-tracking left the Indian team visibly stunned and many players shared their take on the field.
“Focus on your team while they shine the ball. Not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time,” Kohli said on the stump mic. The Indian skipper is being criticised for his outburst and has now received an informal warning.
Following the day’s play, Team India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, had defended the team and said: “We saw it, you saw it. I’ll leave that for the match referee to have a look at it. There’s nothing I can comment on it now. We’ve seen it all, just want to move on with the game now.”
“Every individual out here is trying his best. Sometimes in a moment like this, people do say certain things. It’s a game. I think it’s fair we just move on. Everyone is trying their best. Emotions do come into play sometimes.”
Even though Elgar only scored 30, his gritty knock played a key role in the win as he put up 78 runs for the 2nd wicket with Keegan Petersen. Petersen went on to score his 2nd half-century of the Test match and hit 82 off 113. Rassie van der Dussen (41*) and Temba Bavuma (32*) added match-winning 57 runs for the 4th wicket as SA chased down the target of 212 to win the Test match.
The victory saw SA extending their winning run against India at home. India haven’t won a Test series in the rainbow nation.
