Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Narendra Modi government for “pushing” crores of people into poverty. Taking to Twitter with a graphic, the Wayanad MP said that there had only been development for certain individuals.
Gandhi cited data to contend via a graphic that more than 4 crore Indians had been pushed into poverty since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020. Without naming names he contrasted this against the wealth rise of “humare do” in the year 2021.
“Vikas overflow only for Humare Do! While our 4,00,00,000 brothers and sisters are pushed into poverty. Each of these 4,00,00,000 is a real person, not just a number. Each of these 4,00,00,000 deserved better. Each of these 4,00,00,000 is India!” he tweeted.
A day earlier, Gandhi had taken to Twitter accusing the BJP-led Central government of trying to “destroy the rights of the public from the beginning”. In a series of tweets the Lok Sabha MP tweets said that the world’s largest democracy is nothing without fundamental rights.
“What’s the point of the world’s largest democracy without public rights? The Modi government has been trying to destroy the rights of the public from the beginning. Can you even imagine India without these rights including the fundamental rights?” he had asked.
The Congress MP in a series of He further said that transparency is another name of democracy and people have the right to question it.
While addressing the media during the launch the party’s youth manifesto for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, Gandhi had also criticised the BJP government for depriving the youth of opportunities. “About 880 youth lost a job in Uttar Pradesh every 24 hours while 16 lakh youths lost jobs in the last 5 years,” he had alleged.
