US President Donald Trump threatened the Iranian regime, stating that the United States is ready to come to the rescue of peaceful protesters who were demonstrating against the Iranian government over rising inflation and currency depreciation.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “If Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
On the other hand, Iran’s National Security Council member Ali Larijani said that intervention by the United States would bring anarchism to the region and destroy American interests. He said, “The US President should take care of his army personnel.”
Iran Protests
People in Iran have been protesting over rising inflation, currency depreciation, and corruption in different parts of the country. They have been staging protests on the streets, raising slogans against the government. The protests were mostly joined by traders, shopkeepers, and students.
According to news agency AP, seven people have lost their lives in clashes between security forces and citizens. Protesters were shouting slogans against Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian Authorities have shut schools, colleges and Universities after declaring a bank holiday. The move is being seen as an attempt to curb the nationwide protest.
Protesters extend support for return of exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi
Demonstrators reportedly stormed police stations and Basij headquarters while calling for an end to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s rule. Statues of Qasem Soleimani have also been torched, and some protesters have lend support for the return of the monarchy under exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi.
The protest turned out to be the biggest in Iran since 2022, after the country witnessed demonstrations following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody.
