BJP leaders on Monday hit back at the ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra over its remarks on Hindutva saying that its leader Uddhav Thackeray has joined anti-Hindutva parties in greed for power.
“Today Uddhav Thackery is behaving the exact opposite of what Bala Saheb preached. He has joined anti-Hindutva parties in greed of power,” ANI quoted Union Minister Raosaheb Patil Danve as saying.
Shiv Sena cited Savarakar during campaign speeches in Dombivali, is this a Hindutva party? he asked.
His remarks came a day after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming that it has used Hindutva as a tool to gain power.
“We are the ones who supported them (BJP). We had an alliance for 25 years. BJP used Hindutva for power. We left BJP but will not leave Hindutva. BJP is not Hindutva. Tactics were used against us when we challenged them,” he had said on Sunday while addressing the Shiv Sainiks virtually on the 96th birth anniversary of the party founder Bal Thackeray.
Reacting to Thackeray’s remarks, former Maharashtra CM and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis targetted Shiv Sena over its alliance with Congress challenging its leaders to just get a post tweeted for Balasaheb Thackeray, from Sonia and Rahul Gandhi with whom they are sitting in power in the state.
“You only gave speeches during the Ram Mandir movement, we were the ones who faced bullets and sticks,” he said.
“I want to remind them that their party (Shiv Sena) was not born at a time when BJP corporator was there in Mumbai. Till the time they were with us, they used to be number 1 or no 2 party but now they are at number 4,” Fadnavis added.
