Trying to make every moment special: Harmanpreet Kaur confirms Jhulan Goswami will retire after England series

A legendary era of Indian cricket is set to come to an end as veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami will make her final appearance for the national team in the upcoming tour against England. The three-match ODI series away from home will be Goswami’s final assignment in international cricket.
After months of speculation, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur confirmed that the legendary fast-bowler will bid adieu to the sport after the tour of England. India are set to play three T20Is and three ODIs as part of their latest white-ball assignment in England scheduled to start on September 9.
Harmanpreet stated that the ODI series against England will be special for not just Jhulan but every player and they want to make it a memorable outing. The Indian skipper recalled that when she made her debut for Team India, Jhulan was the captain of the Indian team.
“She provides balance and adds a lot of support (to the time). This (her farewell series) will be very special for us. When I debuted, she was the captain and it’s a great opportunity for me that when she’s playing her final series, I will be leading. We are trying to make sure her every moment is special. The last game will be special for us too,” said Harmanpreet in India’s pre-departure press conference.
Harmanpreet further lavished praise on Jhulan for her dedication to the game and stated that no one can take her place and lauded the effort she puts in till date and her passion for the sport is unmatched. “Her approach towards the game, nobody can beat that. I have learned a lot (from her). Nobody can take her place. Even today, she continues to put in the same effort. You don’t see many bowlers do that today,” said Kaur.
“Her (Goswami) passion for cricket is unmatched. She’s a great example for all of us. A lot of cricketers began playing after being inspired her. What she brings to the team, I haven’t seen (anyone do that). I was lucky to have a senior like her to learn from,” she concluded.
Jhulan made her debut for the national team in 2002 and played a total of 12 Test matches, 201 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. Her final international game will be at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
