Trump’s Greenland plan in trouble as Europe rallies behind Macron, French troops deployed, NATO to conduct….

The dispute between the United States and France over Greenland is escalating. French President Emmanuel Macron has offered NATO to conduct military exercises in Greenland, saying France is ready to contribute troops. This offer comes as US President Donald Trump arrives in Davos for the World Economic Forum, where he may pressure European NATO countries regarding Greenland. Trump’s threats have angered Europe, and Macron has been actively pushing back. Some European nations have even sent troops to Greenland as a signal to the US.

Macron’s Strong Message in Davos

During his speech on Tuesday, Macron stated that Europe will not bow to any threats or bullying. His message was a clear reference to President Trump, who had warned that the US would impose heavy tariffs if Europe did not support American ambitions in Greenland. NATO officials have also warned that Trump’s Greenland strategy could put the military alliance at risk. Trump even linked Greenland to the Nobel Prize controversy in his previous remarks.

Advice for the European Union

Macron urged the European Union not to hesitate in using anti-pressure mechanisms against US trade threats. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, he criticized “aggressive US trade pressure and the endless accumulation of new tariffs,” emphasizing that these tools are powerful and should be used in today’s challenging environment.

Trump Softens His Tone

On Tuesday, Trump adopted a comparatively restrained stance on Greenland, different from his aggressive statements the day before. When asked whether his efforts to acquire Greenland from Denmark could lead to divisions, he said: “I think we will find a solution that makes both NATO and us happy.” This differed from Monday’s message to Norway’s Prime Minister, where Trump said he was no longer “forced to think only in terms of peace.” However, he reaffirmed that controlling Greenland is essential for US national security.

Macron Calls Emergency EU Meeting

Macron has called an emergency meeting in Paris with European leaders this week to discuss Trump’s Greenland efforts and the rising tensions over tariffs. Trump said he would not attend the meeting, citing that Macron may not lead his country for much longer. Earlier this week, Trump also shared private messages exchanged with Macron and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on social media.
