As several states recently reported incidents of communal violence, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday warned that no religious programme should be permitted on the roads.
The Chief Minister, who was in Bundelkhand region on Sunday, said that all such events should take place inside the premises of religious places, news agency IANS reported. The decision was taken apparently to avert any possible communal tension in the state.
Last month, Adityanath had directed that no religious procession or marches should be taken out without permission and that usage of loudspeakers should not inconvenience others. The order came amid incidents of violence during festivals in some states.
He had also directed officials that religious events and worship should be held only at designated places and it should be ensured that no religious programme takes place by disrupting roads or traffic.
“No religious procession should be taken out without due permission. Before giving permission, an affidavit should be taken from the organiser regarding the maintenance of peace and harmony. Permission should be given to only those religious processions, which are traditional. New programmes should not be given unnecessary permission,” a tweet from his official handle said.
Last month, several states including, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha, reported incidents of communal clashes during Ram Navami celebrations.
