With a number of Hollywood and Tamil films ruling the box office, the Telugu Fulm Producers Council has taken a tough stand, declaring that only straight language films be given preference by exhibition partners.
Earlier today, film producer and business expert Girish Johar took to Twitter to share the news, writing, “Facing stiff competition from #Hollywood & #Tamil films, Telugu Film Producers Council has asked its Exhibition partners to give PREFERENCE to their straight lang releases & not dubbed ones, spcly on key festivals !..taking bull by its thorns.” The trade expert pegged it under his ‘Time for correction’ tweets.
The press note by the Telugu Film Producers Council states that keeping in view the increased cost of production of Telugu films, the welfare of Producers and to save the Telugu Film industry, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has in an emergency meeting passed a resolution that “Only Telugu straight Film should be given preference during the festivals of Sanktranthi and Dassera.”
The press note further read, “In this connection, noted Producer and the present Vice-President of Telugu Fil Chamber of Commerce Sri Dilraju has categorically informed through Media in the year 2019 stating that how can we give Theatres to Dubbed Telugu movies duringthe fesivals and therefore the first preference shall be given to Straight Telugu Movies for screening in Theatres and the remaining will be given to Dubbed Telugu movies during festivals.
The Telugu Film Producers Council further requested exhibitors to invariably implement the decision.
Recent years have seen a number of Telugu films becoming huge box office successes, including the recently released Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Yashoda, along with Baahubali, Pushpa, Karthikeya , Ram Charan and Jr NTR’s RRR among others.
