Taxi, auto ride in Delhi to get costlier as government hikes fares; check revised rates

Travelling by auto rickshaws and taxis in Delhi will now be heavier on the pockets of commuters as the government has announced a hike in the fares. In view of the rising CNG prices in the national capital, the Delhi government on Friday approved revised fares for auto rickshaws and taxis.
The latest revision comes two years after auto fares were changed in 2020, while the same for the taxi was done in 2013.
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) earlier this month increased the price of CNG by Rs 3 per kg in Delhi-NCR, taking the price to Rs 78.61 per kg, up from Rs 75.61 per kg.

Now, anyone taking an auto will have to pay the meter down charge (minimum fare) of Rs 30, up from Rs 25 earlier, for the first 1.5 kilometre. The per kilometre charge after meter down has been revised upwards to Rs 11 from Rs 9.50.
On the other hand, the base fare for taxis (both AC and non-AC) for the first kilometre has been revised from Rs 25 to Rs 40. The price hike for non-AC taxis is Rs 2 while that for AC taxis is Rs 4. So, anyone hiring a non-AC taxi will have to pay the per kilometre charge, after meter down, of Rs 17, up from Rs 14. Similarly, they will have to pay Rs 20, up from Rs 16 for AC vehicles.

The waiting and luggage charge, meanwhile, remains the same for autos at 75 paise per minute and Rs 7.5 for extra luggage respectively. Extra luggage charge for taxis is Rs 15.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot had received many representations from the autorickshaw and taxi associations and unions on the issue of hike in fares.
