There’s no doubt that Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata, the founder of Air India among other Tata subsidiaries, was no ordinary business baron. Besides his sharp acumen in the field, the man also distinguished himself as the first Indian citizen to gain a commercial pilot’s license on February 10, 1929.
Sharing his thoughts in the form of ‘Wednesday Wisdom’, the twitter handle of the Tata Group posted a quote by JRD ‘Jeh’ Tata himself.
“Do we have sufficient thought to the nurture of the young investigator, to providing the right atmosphere and conditions of work and full opportunity for development? It is these things that foster invention and discovery,” it read.
Accompanying the thoughtful quote, Tata tweeted, “Here’s some #WednesdayWisdom guiding the spirit of innovation. #ThisIsTata.”
One of the users, in the comment section, said, “Wednesdays will always bring smiles for the second half of the week.”
JRD Tata is credited with giving India its first domestic carrier airline, Air India in 1932. The airline was nationalised in 1953 with Tata as chairman himself.
Born on July 29, 1904 in Paris, Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata was in 1955 honoured with the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India. In 1992, he was awarded India’s highest civilian honor – the Bharat Ratna – in recognition of his selfless humanitarian endeavours.
In the same year, JRD Tata was also bestowed with the United Nations Population Award for his crusading endeavors towards initiating and successfully implementing the family planning movement in India, much before it became an official government policy.
Meanwhile, on January 27, Air India returned to its founder Tata Group, which won the bid to acquire the airline in October 2021. Tata Sons brokered a deal with the Centre for Rs 18,000 crore. To buy Air India, Tata Sons were pitted against Spicejet promoter Ajay Singh-led consortium, which placed a bid of Rs 15,100 crore.
