Even though floodwaters have receded in Punjab, the real work begins only when the government reaches every village and every household to restore normalcy. With this very approach, the Aam Aadmi Party government began its work, and today people across Punjab themselves are saying—for the first time, there is a government that is not just issuing orders but is standing in the field. The special health campaign that began on September 14 has set a new example across the state. Never before has such a large-scale mission been carried out to deliver health services simultaneously to 2,303 flood-affected villages. Where earlier people had to run to hospitals for medicines, now the government itself is reaching their doorsteps—with teams of doctors, medical kits, and complete preparedness to prevent diseases.
The biggest feature of this campaign is that it is not the responsibility of just one department. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself is supervising it. Cabinet ministers, MLAs, party district in-charges, public representatives—everyone is present in the field. Ministers are meeting people in some places, while MLAs are monitoring the arrangements for village camps. In every village, Aam Aadmi Party leaders and volunteers are standing with government teams, because this is not just relief—it is an opportunity for public service. From morning till evening, health camps are running daily, where doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and nursing students together are checking people.
In villages without hospitals or health centers, schools, panchayat buildings, or anganwadis have been turned into temporary medical centers. Each camp has essential medicines, ORS, Dettol, fever tablets, malaria-dengue testing kits, and first aid. The government has ensured that no family is left out. ASHA workers are going door to door. Their sole task is to check the health of every household, arrange for doctors when required, and provide medicines. If a child is sick, an elder has fever, or a woman feels weak, treatment no longer has to wait. The government has decided to reach every household at least once by September 20. This work will continue even on Sundays without any break.
Unprecedented preparations have also been made for fogging and mosquito control. For the next 21 days, fogging will be carried out continuously in every village. Teams are inspecting water sources house to house, and wherever there is suspicion of dengue or malaria, spraying is done immediately. This is all being done systematically—each block’s medical officer is responsible, and by evening, daily reports are uploaded online.
More than 550 ambulances are engaged in this mission. A stock of 85 essential medicines and 23 medical utility items has already been arranged. MBBS doctors, nursing staff, and pharmacy staff from large hospitals are serving in this campaign. All departments have been instructed that this mission must not stop—neither due to lack of resources nor due to shortage of staff.
When a government starts winning people’s hearts silently through its work, praise naturally comes from the people themselves. That is exactly what is happening in Punjab. Since health services, sanitation, and relief have started reaching people directly in every village, the voices everywhere are the same: the Aam Aadmi Party government is truly our government. This campaign shows that in flood relief efforts, the Mann government is reaching every village, every lane, and every family. The continuous work being done under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann demonstrates that the government does not see responsibility as a burden but as an opportunity to serve.
