Dobaaraa, the eagerly anticipated movie starring Ektaa Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, is scheduled to hit theatres on August 19. The movie, which stars Tapsee Pannu, is reportedly the director’s first thriller.
Anurag and co-star Pawail Gulati accompanied her at the recent BFI screening for Dobaaraa. As someone who has worked across languages in India, she was questioned about the formation of South Indian cinema. Taapsee claimed that, more than anything else, the situation for performers has altered and that, in many ways, it is now simpler for people to enter the North than it was for her ten years ago.
Taapsee Pannu recently stated that she thinks South Indian movies are still as wonderful or horrible as they were in the past. She claimed that the varied possibilities offered in Indian cinema have just recently been more well known to the Hindi-speaking audience. While the wonder of SS Rajamouli’s films is just now being appreciated by audiences worldwide, his supporters have always known that he is capable of producing RRR.
She said, “These kinds of films were made back then also, but maybe the budgets weren’t as high as Rajamouli’s Baahubali and RRR. But films that were considered ‘regional’ at that time were equally good. The same kind of stuff that was happening 10 years back, when I started, and it’s just that the Hindi audience is waking up to it because of this crossover, and a lot of credit goes to the OTT world.”
She further added that the films are still as good or bad as they were back then. So, she doesn’t see any difference in the quality of films that they are making. It’s not like suddenly they are making something different. “You see Magadheera, he’s made some fabulous films before as well. That man can make even Makkhi a hero. RRR is like, ‘obviously, he can do this.”, said Taapsee.
