In a tragic incident reminiscent of recent political violence in Tamil Nadu, Balasubramaniam, Deputy Secretary of the ‘Nam Tamilar Party’ in Madurai’s northern district, was brutally murdered on Tuesday morning. The attack occurred while he was out for a routine walk in the Chockikulam area along Vallabhi Road, under Tallakulam Police Station jurisdiction.
According to initial reports from the police, Balasubramaniam was ambushed by four unidentified assailants who assaulted him before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, prompting a swift investigation by local authorities. Paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital immediately after the incident, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
This incident follows closely after the shocking assassination of BSP chief Armstrong in Tamil Nadu earlier this month. Armstrong was fatally attacked at his residence by a group of assailants armed with knives and swords while he was engaged in discussions with party members. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, Armstrong did not survive, and the main suspect in his murder, Tiruvengadam, was subsequently killed in a police encounter. The police have since apprehended 11 suspects linked to the case, underscoring the severity of the political violence in the region.
Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to apprehending those responsible for Balasubramaniam’s murder swiftly. As investigations continue, the community and political circles alike remain on edge, grappling with the implications of these targeted attacks on political figures in Tamil Nadu.
