Indian skipper Rohit Sharma once again showed why he is one of the best batters of our time. The 35-year-old batter scored his ninth Test century for India During the second day’s play of the first India-Australia Test match, which is taking place at the Vidarbha Association Cricket Stadium in Nagpur, Rohit reached the three-figure mark with a four on the fourth ball of the 63rd over of the Indian innings. It was his first Test century as Indian Test skipper, and by reaching the three-figure mark, he also created a new record by becoming the first Indian skipper to score a century in all three formats of the game.
Rohit scored a century in ODI and T20I as Indian skipper back in 2017 against Sri Lanka, and on February 10, 2023, he scored a century in Test cricket as well. The right-handed batter batted with responsibility to help India go past Australia’s first-inning total of 177 runs. After finishing the first day on 56 runs from 69 balls, Rohit took time on the second day to frustrate the Australian batters. He faced a total of 171 balls to reach his Test century.
After stepping out of the crease and playing an inside out shot, Rohit celebrated the moment with a big smile on his face. He was first congratulated by Jadeja, who was out there in the middle, and the entire dressing room as well as the fans appreciated his inning.
Rohit was struggling with form in 2022, and for the first time since 2012, he failed to score a single century in international cricket last year, but in 2023, he has again found his lost touch. In his last appearance for India before this Test, Rohit ended the three-year wait for an ODI century when he made 101 against New Zealand in the third ODI of the three-match series played at Holkar Stadium in Indore.
