The Indian men’s badminton team created history by winning the Thomas Cup 2022 for the first time on Sunday. India’s Kidambi Srikanth led the country to the win by defeating Jonatan Christie, in Bangkok, winning the tie 3-0 over 14-time champions Indonesia.
Actress Taapsee Pannu shared a snapshot of her TV screen which featured her boyfriend Mathias Boe, who team India’s badminton coach, and penned how proud she is of him.
The featured pic was of Mathias hugging Srikanth just after he had won the match. Atop the pic, Taapsee wrote, “Mr. Coach you made us proud @mathias.boe #ThomasCupWinner.” In another post, she wrote, “Boys did it!!! First ever Thomas Cup for India!!!”
Mathias took to Instagram and wrote, “Playing team events in an individual sport is always very special, maybe that’s why it is so much fun. Yesterday was a bit extra special for me playing again my former colleagues, friends, coaches and country. They chanted Judas after me, I gave them back by winning the match. I really hope people back home in 🇮🇳🇮🇳 understand what an achievement this it. 🇮🇳 vs 🇮🇩 Thomas Cup final tomorrow. One more to go.”
