The former Australian state cricketer John Davison who also served as former Canada’s captain has taken on the role of T20I coach for Italy to help them qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Italy will participate in the European Regional Finals of the T20 World Cup qualifying pathway at the Netherlands this June to secure two spots in the main tournament. The Italian cricket team will compete against Netherlands and Scotland and Guernsey and Jersey for World Cup qualification under the guidance of coach John Davison.

John Davison Excited To Lead Italy’s T20 World Cup Push

John Davison shows great enthusiasm and pride in his role as head coach of Italy’s T20 men’s team. Davison expressed his deep excitement and honour about taking the position as head coach for Italy’s T20 men’s team. The opportunity to work with this team and its people made me accept the position without hesitation. As a Canadian player I experienced World Cup qualification and now I aim to achieve the same success by leading Italy’s diverse team of dedicated staff and players. During the 2003 World Cup he gained fame for his 111-run performance against West Indies which he achieved in 76 balls while captaining Canada. After his retirement he took on the role of Australian spin-bowling coach to guide Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Swepson and Matt Kuhnemann.

Joe Burns Leads A Strong Italian Squad

Davison joins forces with Italy’s new captain Joe Burns who gained his eligibility through his mother’s Italian heritage after playing for Australia and Queensland as an opener. Burns joined the team in May last year and shows strong enthusiasm to contribute. He expressed his honour to serve Italy at the international level. The opportunity to represent my family heritage brings me back to my ancestral roots. The sport of Italian cricket demonstrates great potential which makes me enthusiastic about helping its advancement. We at the team work with my teammates to achieve major targets while bringing pride to our supporters.” The squad consists of Ben and Harry Manenti alongside Tasmania’s Jake Doran and Tim Ward who await approval status while Matthew Fotia and Jason Ralston compete for the qualifiers.
